In 1992, MacKenzie Contracting
created a commercial drywall division to do work in their
buildings. As the properties became leased and the need for
build out decreased, Frank Avena decided to market to other
developers and general contractors in the area.
Over the next 12 years, the company developed strong
relationships with clients such as Merritt Properties, Waverly
Construction, Kinsley Construction, Trionfo Builders, KasCon
Incorporated, Conlan Company, Whiting-Turner, Glen Arm Building
Company and many more.
In October 2003, Frank Avena purchased the drywall division from
MacKenzie Contracting and Avena Contracting, LLC opened its door
specializing in commercial drywall applications, acoustical
ceilings, light gauge structural framing, carpentry and door
packages. The firm has completed such projects as Loyola High
School Blakefield, several shopping centers and strip centers,
hotels such as the Hampton Inn in Annapolis, institutional work
for Johns Hopkins, Harbor and Mercy Hospitals, and church
projects such as Mt. Pleasant and Martin Luther King as well as
the new Chapel at Loyola.
